Unending Pits

Unending Pits

Then I heard, we are talking of Unending Pits, Unending Pits.

So my question is what does the Bible tell us of unending pits? Below is one of the many search results I got from Google. Please note that I would use the words ‘bottomless pits’ and ‘unending pits’ interchangeably

What is the Unending Pit (Revelation 9:1-12)?

Biblically “Bottomless pit” or ‘Unending pit’ is a very deep gulf or chasm in the lowest parts of the earth used as the common receptacle of the dead and, especially, as the abode of demons and humans who missed their Salvation.

Scriptures tell us in the Book of Revelation that in the end times, satan will be bound and held in a bottomless pit for the next 1,000 years (Revelation 20:1–3).

The Return of Our Lord Jesus Christ

After the battle of Armageddon,  Our Lord Jesus Christ will return, destroy the Antichrist and his armies, and cast them into the lake of fire (Revelation 19:11-21). Christ will then bind satan in the bottomless pit for 1,000 years and Jesus Christ will rule His earthly kingdom for these thousand years (Revelation 20:1-6).

Also, the Scriptures tell us that at the beginning of the millennial kingdom, when satan is bound for a thousand years Jesus Himself will rule the world, and Jerusalem will be the capital. This will be a 1,000-year period of peace and prosperity on earth (Revelation 20; Isaiah 60–62). Memorial sacrifices will be offered in a rebuilt temple in Jerusalem (Ezekiel 40–48).

Impending Reality

Bible references below on the impending reality of the bottomless pit:

Rev 20:1 And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.

Rev 20:2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,

Rev 20:3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that, he must be loosed a little season.

According to The Book of  Revelation 20:1-3, satan is cast into the bottomless pit where he is rendered inactive for the entire period of the thousand-year reign of Christ on earth. At the end of the 1,000 years, satan will be released from his prison for a short time.

As satan’s sole goal is to destroy God’s people, he will deceive the nations once again, and there will be a rebellion against The King of Glory, Jesus,  and satan will be quickly defeated (Revelation 20:7–10) and be cast into the lake of fire for eternity.

The Lake of Fire

The lake of fire, mentioned only in Revelation 19:20 and 20:10, 14-15, is the final hell, the place of eternal punishment for all unrepentant rebels, both angelic and human (Matthew 25:41).

It is described as a place of burning sulfur, and those in it experience eternal, unspeakable agony of an unrelenting nature (Luke 16:24; Mark 9:45-46). Those who have rejected Christ and are in the temporary abode of the dead in hades/sheol have the lake of fire as their final destination.

QUALIFIERS FOR THE UNENDING PIT

In Revelation 21:8, He who sits on the throne in heaven tells John: “But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murders, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars — their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.” We would do well to notice the unbelievers and all liars are included with the murderers and sexually immoral.

Sin Is Sin

Dear Brethren, sin is sin, and sin will exclude us from the glorious presence of Jesus and the Father for eternity. (See also 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 and Galatians 5:19-21).

But those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life should have no fear of this terrible fate. By faith in Christ and His blood shed on the cross for our sins, we are destined to live eternally in the presence of God.

Conclusion

In Philippians 2:12-13, Paul writes, “Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed – not only in my presence but now much more in my absence – continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his purpose.”
