Then I heard ‘All come from the same Source but to each one He gave a different talent, and you cannot question Him why He gave one person this talent and another that talent’.
The Source in this revelation is God, the Source of All things visible and invisible.
In the book of Genesis 1:1, the first chapter and the first verse in the Bible show us who our God is. He is CREATOR. He is not “a” creator or someone who simply “creates,” He is THE Creator, because “Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made” (John 1:3).
Wealth, Power, or Strength
Any Wealth, Power, or Strength we have originated from God. Any gift or talent we have – the same is true (James 1:17; 1 Corinthians 12:1-11). Even our ability to give generously comes from our selfless God (Deuteronomy 8:18; 2 Corinthians 9:10-11). Everything we have, and everything else that exists, is all His.
To put it differently, another author says ‘Everything that is in the universe came from God to start with. He is the Creator and The Source of all that is Good’ and all things are through God. This means that not only is God the Source of all things, He holds them together.
God Created Everything
In the Book of Colossians 1:16 , in the New Testament of The Bible, The Apostle says ‘ For through him God created everything in heaven and on earth, the seen and the unseen things, including spiritual powers, lords, rulers, and authorities. God created the whole universe through him and for him.
The second aspect of the revelation is about talents given by God.
God-given Talents for His Purpose
The Bible teaches that: God has given every human being a gift, or talent, to use for His purpose. “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace” (1 Peter 4:10 ). God wants us to use these gifts to help others and glorify Jesus Christ, not ourselves.
In the book of James 1:17, Apostle James tells us that every gift is from God. We all have different talents and God-given gifts, but they are all important and should be used for God’s kingdom. In 1 Corinthians 12, Apostle Paul compares the individuals in the body of Christ to different parts of the body. Every part of the body has a purpose, and we cannot say one part is more important than another. So also are God’s given talents to humans. We can’t say one talent in an individual is more important than the talent in another individual. We must thank God for all the talents he has gifted humans – the works of His creation.
The Parable of The Talents
In Matthew 25:14&15, Scriptures recount The Parable of The Talents. Scriptures tell us that the Kingdom of God is and I quote ‘“For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted to them his property. To one he gave five talents, [to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability.
God knows each one’s ability and allocates His gifts or talents to each one of us, according to each one’s ability and this is the reason why we cannot question God why the talents apportioned to everyone are different. God created us All and He knows our abilities and capabilities to deploy our talents for His purpose on earth.
What are the Talents given by God?
Administration, Apostleship, Craftsmanship; Discernment; Encouragement; Evangelism; Faith; Giving; Healing; Helping; Hospitality; Intercession; Knowledge; Leadership; Mercy; Miracles; Prophecy; Serving; Shepherding; Teaching; Tongues & Interpretation; Wisdom.
Because all these talents serve different purposes for God on Earth, I would say not one is more important that the other. Rather All these talents are important for different purposes.
Serve Others with Your Gifts
In the book of 1 Peter 4:10-11, the Scriptures tell us ‘Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God.
Therefore, no one should boast of their God-given talents. God detests all the proud of heart. Prideful people are addressed in the book of Proverbs 8:13 “To fear the LORD is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech.” Proverbs 11:2 “When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.” Proverbs 16:5 “The LORD detests all the proud of heart. Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished.”
Conclusion
To conclude, Humility and Wisdom are the watchwords for this teaching on talents. When we exercise Humility and Wisdom in our dealings with one another on earth be it in a professional setting, familial setting or social setting, we give God Credit and Glory for the gifts we have. God loves this.
The Scriptures tell us that God does not like to share His Glory with anyone. The Prophet Isaiah tells us in the book of Isaiah 42:8 & 9, “I alone am the Lord your God. No other god may share my glory; I will not let idols share my praise. The things I predicted have now come true. Now I will tell you of new things even before they begin to happen.”
Praise Be To God Almighty, Praise Be To Our Lord Jesus Christ, Praise Be To The Holy Spirit.
