The Power of Freedom

The Power of Freedom

Then I heard ‘The Power of Freedom’

The Almighty God through Our Lord Jesus Christ gives us the Power of Freedom through the Holy Spirit.

Acts 1:8 says, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” This power that comes from the Holy Spirit allows you to stand strong for the things of God.

The Holy Spirit brings Freedom.

The Holy Spirit brings freedom from fear, anger, and the past. So often Christians find themselves bound by so many things and are not aware that the Holy Spirit wants to bring the freedom of God to them. Many are slaves to anger, envy, jealousy, comparisons, and addictions. You do not have to live life like that.

The path to receiving the Holy Ghost is to exercise faith in Christ unto repentance. We can become clean by qualifying for the effects of the Savior’s Atonement. The covenants offered in baptism by authorized servants of God bring that cleansing.

In Christ, we are free, no longer slaves to sin.

Today, many people are living in spiritual slavery without realizing it. They chase false gods of money, success, personal comfort, and romantic love—only to realize they still have an emptiness that can’t be filled by any of those things.

These material things and physical desires are simply vain desires which give no real permanent satisfaction. The desire for these things is insatiable, never-ending, and an unconquerable quest. A chase in futility. The scriptures capture it aptly as chasing after the wind.

True power, through the gift of the Holy Spirit, is to first ‘seek the kingdom of God and its righteousness and every other thing shall be added on to it’- Matthew 6:33.

What is meant by the gift of the Holy Spirit?

The gift of the Holy Ghost is the privilege—given to people who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ, been baptized, and been confirmed as members of the Church—to receive continual guidance and inspiration from the Holy Ghost.

The core message of the Christian faith—the Gospel—is that Jesus Christ rescues us from the slavery of sin and offers true freedom in this life and beyond. This is what Jesus said:

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

In the gospel of Jesus Christ lies our total freedom. When our Lord Jesus Christ was taken into Heaven after the resurrection, he left the world with the gift of the Holy Spirit.

How does the Holy Spirit come?

The dove – When Christ comes up from the water of his baptism, the Holy Spirit, in the form of a dove, comes down upon him and remains with him. Wind – The Spirit is likened to the “wind that blows where it will,” and described as “a sound from heaven like the rush of a mighty wind.”

In our Lord Jesus Christ, is total freedom if only we believe that Christ is the one who gives us freedom. Jesus Christ gave up His Life for the redemption of the sins of Man and consequently Man was redeemed from death and eternal damnation to hell. The outcome of Jesus’ redemption power is life and eternal life in Heaven.

God, through our Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, gives us the freedom to choose our path.

God created human beings, not robots. We don’t have to accept the freedom He offers us through Jesus Christ. He gives each person the free will to accept or reject His salvation. But the Bible warns that ‘hell is a real place’ where real people end up when they knowingly reject the truth.

Likewise, those who choose Christ are not forced to obey Him at every turn. But God makes it clear: the best life is one that’s devoted to honoring Him. As the Apostle Paul explained to some of the first Christians:

“’All things are lawful for me,’” but not all things are helpful. ‘All things are lawful for me,’ but I will not be dominated by anything” (1 Corinthians 6:12).
“For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another” (Galatians 5:13).

Here is my summary of the whole matter, ‘They are happy who follow God’s Law’.

Conclusion

From cover to cover, God’s Word points to freedom in Christ. And God doesn’t leave us wondering how to grab hold of the freedom He offers. It starts with acknowledging our brokenness—and admitting we are slaves to sin. And it ends with choosing Jesus and following Him daily through the guidance of the Holy Spirit.  Only God through Jesus and the direction and guidance of the Holy Spirit can break the bonds of slavery and lead us to true freedom, Power, now and forever.

Choose Jesus today, and find out what true freedom feels like.
