Then I heard teach us each day our daily bread. Hearing this message struck a chord of curiosity in my mind. Normally, in the Lord’s Prayer, it is said ‘Give us this day our daily bread’. And now, I am educated to ‘teach us’ this day our daily bread. So, off I went on Google to do some research on the topic. My Google search was to find out the difference between ‘teaching’ and ‘giving’ us each day Our Daily Bread.
First, what is the biblical teaching on the Bread of Life?
God is our Provider, and Jesus is the Bread of Life. John recorded Jesus’ promise that all who freely accept this bread will no longer hunger. The first of the “I am” statements of Jesus, which solidify His nature as fully God and fully man is “I am the bread of life,” which describes the way we find full satisfaction in and through Christ alone.
Jesus Is the Bread of Life
So, my understanding from the above is that Jesus is The Bread of Life. And the revelation I have says to ‘teach us’ this day Our Daily Bread. In other words, at the level of teaching us, Jesus requires us to walk with him in a more mature state of mind on our Christian journey.
First, in The Lord’s Prayer, Our Lord Jesus Christ says ‘Give Us This Day…’ meaning we pray to God to give us Jesus our Provider and Bread. But the next level expected of our relationship with Jesus, by my revelation, says, ‘Teach Us’ each day…’ meaning we learn to know more about Jesus daily to the point of knowing Him as The WAY, The Truth, and The Life.
Jesus The Way, The Truth, and The Life
Learning and gaining this knowledge of Jesus as The Way, The Truth, and The Life, gives Christians the opportunity to exercise faith through ‘Jesus with Assurance and Confidence. Knowing Our Lord Jesus Christ as The Way, The Truth, and The Life provides Christians with the certitude that we can always trust God and exercise our faith through The Lord Jesus Christ; knowing that whatever circumstance we find ourselves we know that Jesus Christ, Our Daily Bread will show up for us.
Teach Us Jesus -Our Daily Bread
Therefore, when we are taught daily, Our Daily Bread, we need not fear the unknown because we are assured by The Lord Jesus Christ that ‘Our Bread’ is certain daily.
In the case of ‘Give Us’, there is a connotation of incertitude. The question is what if God does not give us Our Daily Bread? Scriptures tell us and I quote, James 4:3 – You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions. John 15:7 – If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
Ask and You Shall Receive
So, the next logical question is why not learn about Jesus, Our Daily Bread so that we may know how to ask and to receive? We ask and receive when we abide in God and learn the Words of God so that God’s Words abide in us.
In addition, Jesus taught, “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find” (Matthew 7:7). When we sincerely strive to obey God’s commandments, He gives us answers to our prayers, and are ready to receive the answers.
Baby Christianity
Therefore, my revelation from the Spirit of God encourages Christians to move from the level of ‘baby Christianity’ of simply asking from Jesus Our Daily Bread, (when we may not know how to ask, and therefore not receive) to the next level of acquiring knowledge about Jesus, knowing how to ask, and access Our Daily Bread so that we receive. Accessing and acquiring Our Daily Bread (Jesus Christ) is assured through Faith, Knowledge, Understanding, and Wisdom of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
Getting to this level of maturity requires a deliberate, intentional hunger and search in quest of the knowledge of Our Lord Jesus Christ- Our Daily Bread.
I am The Bread of Life
I conclude by restating my point in the second paragraph above ‘“Then Jesus declared, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty’” (John 6:35). God is our Provider, and Jesus is the Bread of Life.
