Then I heard, Only Jesus Can Save.
As always, I go over to the internet to research the message and get valuable support from experienced and Holy Spirit-inspired writers. So, below is what I got from my internet search which I believe my readers should find enlightening and rewarding.
Scriptures tell us that Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me” (John 14:6). And Peter said, “There is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). We need only Christ to be saved. Believing Him to do for us that which we cannot do for ourselves; to save us. If could save ourselves, then it would not have been necessary for Christ to die; but He did die, and the benefits of His death, burial, and resurrection are available to those who come with the empty hands of faith, trusting in Christ alone to save.
The Book of Isaiah 43:11-13 says “I alone am the Lord, the only one who can save you. 12 I predicted what would happen, and then I came to your aid. No foreign god has ever done this; you are my witnesses. 13 I am God and always will be.
Why can only Jesus save us?
The only one who can truly save us from the righteous, holy wrath of God against us because of our evil and wrongdoing, is the sinless, divine Son of God, Jesus Christ. If we truly want to be saved, then we must trust in Jesus alone for our Salvation (John 3:16; Acts 4:12).
What does it mean to trust in God alone?
To trust is to believe in the reliability, truth, ability or strength of something. So, when it comes to trusting God, that means believing in His reliability, His Word, His ability, and His strength. The Bible says that God cannot lie. That He always keeps His promises. That He loves us and has good in store for us.
Why trust in Jesus alone as the Savior?
Salvation in Christ Jesus alone is sufficient to make a one-time payment for our sin debt. Because He is God. He was, is, and will ever be, completely pure and sinless. He alone could pay the high price that our sin against the Creator was owed.
According to a writer on the internet, Dr. Steven R. Cook, in his article titled ‘Eternal Assurance: Trusting in Christ Alone’. says the Bible teaches that Salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone (Eph 2:8-9), in Christ alone (Acts 4:12), fully apart from any human works whatsoever (Gal 2:16; Eph 2:8-9; Tit 3:5). The teaching is that the lost sinner is “justified as a gift by God’s grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus” (Rom 3:24), for “to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness” (Rom 4:5).
Therefore, we must repent of our pride in order to see the necessity of the grace of Our Lord Jesus Christ. To believe in Christ is to receive Him, His finished work, His grace, His complete forgiveness, His eternal life, and His perfect life; to believe that He has done it all and we do nothing but receive it all through faith.
Good works are not enough to merit Salvation
Further, the writer of the referenced article, says ‘Although we might think that our good works merit salvation, God says that man’s “good” works are never good enough to get us to Heaven. (Eph 2:8-10; Titus 3:5-6) Trusting in Christ alone for Salvation is believing in God’s perfect substitute for our sins.
The Scriptures tell us, “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of ourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast” (Eph 2:8-9). For God “has saved us and called us with a Holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity” (2 Tim 1:9).
Our Salvation was accomplished in full by the Lord Jesus Christ who, while on the cross, bore all our sins and paid our sin debt in full, for “while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Rom 5:8), and He “died for our sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God” (1 Pet 3:18).
Salvation
Salvation comes from a belief that Jesus Christ is both Savior and Lord of one’s life. Salvation is the outcome of being born again.
To buttress this point, Jesus declared, “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.’” … “I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.”
Being “born of the Spirit” is having a true relationship with God through Jesus Christ. It is not works-based Salvation.
Conclusion
In “Philippians 2:12-13” Apostle Paul writes, “Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed – not only in my presence but now much more in my absence – continue to work out your Salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his purpose.”
I wish All my readers a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.
