It Is Finished

It Is Finished

eorits

Then I heard ‘It Is Finished; It is Finished.

Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. — John 19:30

It is Finished is one of the most important words said by Our Lord Jesus Christ in the Scriptures. As we commemorate the Holy Week, the events leading to the end of the week are:  Holy Thursday, the day we commemorate the Last Supper (On this occasion, Our Lord Jesus washes the feet of His disciples), Good Friday, the day of the Crucifixion of Our Lord Jesus Christ, and the week culminates into Easter Sunday, the day Jesus Our Lord Resurrected from the dead.

In all the events of the Holy Week, It Is Finished, in my opinion, was one of the most significant sayings if not the most significant saying of Our Lord Jesus Jesus Christ.

So, in his last words, Jesus was communicating that the work he came for was accomplished. The task of earning the salvation of the world was completed in his work on the Cross. No more additions or adjustments were necessary – salvation was completed.

However, let me touch on the remarkable events of the Holy Week.

The Last Supper

The Last Supper is the final meal that, in the Gospel accounts, Jesus shared with his apostles in Jerusalem before his crucifixion. The Last Supper is commemorated by Christians, especially on Holy Thursday. The Last Supper provides the scriptural basis for the Eucharist, also known as “Holy Communion” or “The Lord’s Supper”. – Wikipedia

Good Friday

The Friday before Easter is called Good Friday which is the Christian day to commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus and his death at Calvary. Good Friday is observed each year during Holy Week as part of the Paschal Triduum. Good Friday is also known as Holy Friday, Great Friday and Black Friday.

Easter Sunday

The Resurrection of Jesus

Easter is one of the principal holidays, or feasts, of Christianity. It marks the Resurrection of Jesus three days after his death by crucifixion. For many Christian churches, Easter is the joyful end to the Lenten season of fasting and penitence.

What are the things Jesus Finished on The Cross:

Jesus substituted His Passion, Crucifixion, and Resurrection for the redemption of Man from sin and eternal damnation and the reconciliation of Man to God The Creator of ALL things, living and non-living things. He set us free from all He finished on The Cross.

In the course of Man’s redemption, Our Lord Jesus suffered the following on THE CROSS:

Pain & Anxiety

  • Jesus Experienced Great Emotional Distress and Anxiety at Gethsemane just before His Crucifixion; He said., “My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” God sent an Angel from Heaven to encourage Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane before his Crucifixion During his agony as he prayed, “His sweat was, as it were, great drops of blood falling down upon the ground” (Luke 22:44).
  • He suffered pain from the crown of thorns put on His Head, and His Head bled
  • His eyes were blinded with blood flowing from the wounds on His Head
  • He was slapped
  • He was scourged (whipped)
  • His Head was hit with a stick
  • His Hands were nailed to The Cross and bled on the way to Calvary
  • His feet were nailed to The Cross and bled on the way to Calvary
  • His shoulder hurt from the weight of the Cross he had to carry
  • His throat was parched with thirst; He said ‘I am Thirsty’ but the barbarians did not give him water. They gave Him Vinegar instead which he refused
  • He fell several times on the way to Calvary and bruised His Knees
  • His rib was pierced with a lance and his rib spewed out Water and Blood
  • From the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?”
  • He cried from pain and He said the words above, meaning, My God, My God, why have Thou forsaken me?

Shame

  • He was mocked by onlookers (you who saved others save yourself they said)
  • He was spat on
  • He was stripped of His clothing
  • One of the robbers being crucified with Him mocked Him

His Passion for Humanity

In the face of death on the Cross, Jesus only spoke words of love.

What are the Last Words of Christ?

“Father, forgive them, they don’t know what they are doing.” …

“Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise” – The Second Word (Salvation) …

“Woman, behold, your son….Behold, your mother.” …

“I thirst.” …

“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” …

“It’s finished.”

Death

After Jesus said, ‘It Is Finished’, the curtain of the temple was torn in two from the top to the bottom. Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” And having said this he breathed his last.

Resurrection

After the Crucifixion, Jesus was laid:

  • In a tomb in Jerusalem.
  • From the tomb He came back to life
  • The Women of Jerusalem went to the tomb on the first day after the Sabbath, so they could give Jesus a befitting burial, bringing along with them spices, they met the stone over the tomb rolled off
  • An Angel told them ‘He Has Risen’, He is not here
  • He stayed on Earth for 40 days after His resurrection, appearing to some people, including His disciples
  • Just before Jesus ascended into Heaven He said to His disciples “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you” — Matthew 28:19-20.
  • Jesus ascended into Heaven where He sits at the Right Hand of God The Father

The Good News

Jesus is coming back a second time. This was revealed to me directly and I also quote Bibleinfo.com ‘The second coming is soon. Jesus promised His disciples that He would come again. John 14:1-3 says, “Let not your heart be troubled…In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.”
